Re: New to the group, starting my first SevTec Build, Surveyor with 40hp
Welcome to Sevtec land ;-) Best bit of advice I could give is stick to the plans, except for one change if using a 40hp powerplant. If going for the bigger engine then it's a good idea to scale the Surveyor up from 7 foot wide to 7.5 ft wide and either 15 or 16 foot long. The scaled up version gives...

Re: 2 engine progress
I notice that you have a chain driving the thrust prop, Has this been a good or bad decision?

Vanguard test flight
I thought I had finished with hovercraft. I have a balance disorder and have lost confidence being out on the water, so sold off my Surveyor and a Vanguard that I was building. Well that idea didn't last long  . August of this year I saw a 14' Vanguard for sale at a sensible price, but...

Re: Noise - Anything Quieter than a Vanguard Hovercraft?
One way of making it quieter is to fit a motor bike silencer. I found by using a standard Honda Fireblade muffler on a briggs & Stratton 35 hp, the exhaust sound was minimal. You can find good used bike silencers on ebay at sensible prices, as people swap out the standard silencers for after mar...

Re: Al's Vanguard Build
A little more progress. I've fitted some boy racer Dixie air horns as I got them cheap. The fuse box, battery isolator switch, earth bus bar, aluminium battery tray, switches fitted, just need to wire the lot in now. The aluminium steering wheel shaft is not finished yet. The steering wheel end has ...

Re: Al's Vanguard Build
I had the Vanguard on the market for quite a few months, as I have a chronic health condition which affects my balance, which means I will probably give up flying cruising hovercraft, as I no longer feel safe being on the water. Anyway it hasn't sold, so I have decided to at least finish the hovercr...

Re: Vanguard as a first hovercraft
Karol, You should still get the weave of the cloth showing through with polyester and vinylester. I always wet the core first, leave it a minute or so to soak in, any dry patches, add a little more resin, lay cloth on, roller/brush air out of cloth. Any dry patches wet them with a brush. Same goes i...

Re: Vanguard as a first hovercraft
HI Karol, Firstly don't waste your money by using epoxy or peel ply. Firstly vinylester is more than adequate and about 1/2 the price of epoxy resin. The peel ply is a waste as all the seams need to be taped, so the finish you get with peel ply is undone with the taping. Panel thickness, should be m...
Re: new prop?
Did you check clearance of prop blades to frame / idler pulleys etc? From memory there needs to be around 4" front & rear of the prop to allow for flexing of the prop blades.
