Re: Cutting the skirt material
They are basically straight lines, but you could fair things a bit by using a rule to curve between the points.

yes, might have to be 1.5" angle or more, but you can cut down one leg to match 1x1.

Re: 23hp vanguard engine orientation
I don't know what beezer is talking about. The shaft would not move in either case. The reason for the note in the plan is that the 23hp engine would require a larger driver pulley, and that would interfer with the mounts as drawn. You can build the frame using 3/16" angle instead of the short ...

Re: Explorer drive
Whichever engine you choose I can calculated pulleys to suit. I need hp and rpm. The motor should not be run faster than about 4500 to maintain lift and thrust balance. One builder is using the L15A honda which is about 75hp. Weight is another consideration. Some used the EJ series as EA got hard to...

Re: Maximum HP on a Surveyor?
Not sure exactly, but the prop pulley weighs more than the entire 40hp drive kit. By the book it should be 4 idlers and two belts, but I've managed with one before.

Re: Maximum HP on a Surveyor?
Weight and the elimination of slippage. The old style pulleys also rust in the saltwater.

Re: chain drive?
Compared to the Gates Poly Chain Carbon belt this is not worth considering, unless you are stuck in a Junk Yard Wars episode with no belts.

Re: Left/Right Front Compartment; Foot or Hand Brake?
I find everyone so far that has gone to a foot brake prefers it. I do use a design on the larger craft that give you both hand/foot, with a lock on feature.
