Re: 23hp vanguard engine orientation

the mount bolt positions dictate where the engine sits. rotating the long part of the engine forward shortens the distance to the turnaround pullies and puts the prop stand forward (as well as the CG and thrust line). you could use what you built and bodge it to make it work,,, but it is a fools ls ...

Re: Sevtec’s for sale?

I have an Ivoprop with electric pitch change for sale. the blades are pretty much like new. I bought the pitch motor when they first came out and put it on one of my ground adjustable props. I modified the motor so the power wires could be run down the prop shaft and forward to big slip rings. the I...

Re: 2 engine progress

I posted somewhere on another thread that the chain drive was not so good. the theory is great, but the power pulses make the chain jump and lurch like crazy. no way was I going to take that out on the river. there are ways to make it work but I did not see any easy solution. I reverted to belts

Re: Maximum HP on a Surveyor?

MY opinion, fwiw.... 25hp is minimum. it will work fine within its limits. more is better. with 3 people it's great as long as the winds aren't too big. 4 people on a perfect day. what altitude are you talking about? you lose about 3% of your power per thousand feet. yes, more power means extra weig...

Re: Garden Tractor Engine Weights

more power is better. a few extra pounds is worth the trade. the horizontal shaft 29 EFI Vanguard is 129 pounds. I doubt the vertical shaft is much different. I think most of the weights you read are with no muffler (unless stated). many of the EFI ones also have to have a pump & regulator syste...

Re: Left/Right Front Compartment; Foot or Hand Brake?

I chopped the divider out of my last skirt that had one. it made a little difference.... it still has the differential steering when you pull only one side but it is not as pronounced. I didn't install that piece in the last couple I built & works fine. excessive water spray out the bow & on...

Re: 2 engine progress

update.... well, the craft certainly hauls better with more power, and really punches into wind too. yesterday I was making 18-20 mph into 20 mph winds. 3 big guys and stuff on board, easily 800 pounds. 16' hull, thrust engine is a 23HP Briggs, lift engine is a 16 HP Kohler there is a big advantage ...

Re: chain drive?

OK.... update. chain is not going to be that fun. it's way lighter, etc, but the power pulses make the chain whip in a very scary way. there may be some way to make it work with a bunch of idlers and tensioners, but thats not for me.. that energy simply transfers to some where else. when I first got...
