Wider floor ideas

Post by Gtkosh »

Does anyone have tips on making the floor wider? I am building an ice fishing boat and could use more floor space for gear. Since I am building a 15 foot craft I am hoping someone has customized in a similar way. I want to keep the exterior dimensions the same as any 15 footer so the skirt stays the same. Thoughts?
Thanks!!

" I want to keep the exterior dimensions the same as any 15 footer so the skirt stays the same"... not possible. or, at least not easy without some major dinking around. changing the hull angles to give more floor space without adding length or width will be harder than simply stretching the hull. it will throw off all the angles that make the skirt work. the easy (easier) way is to make it either longer or wider or both. I built a 16 ft Surveyor... all you have to do for the skirt is add material to the main side tubes. I also built a Scout that was both wider and longer. again, simply adding more material to the skirt both directions and keeping all the corner dimensions the same. word of warning, these craft are very C.G. sensitive. stretching the length messes with the center of gravity. moving the controls forward means moving the engine aft if you want to maintain balance. working from plans for the 15' version will be OK, getting longer will require some engineering and thought. getting wider isn't nearly as much trouble

This can be done by just adding the width to the floor, I did about 8 OA. H9 has to become two facets though. Leave skids in same place.

All the 14' molded craft have this feature.
